BINGHAMTON (27-23) 2-2-1
ERIE (18-32) 1-5-0
The Erie SeaWolves (18-32) dropped another heartbreaking one run loss, falling to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (26-23) 2-1
The Rumble Ponies jumped on the base paths quickly in the first inning on Erie starter Sandy Baez. The righty plunked leadoff man Levi Michael and then walked Peter Alonso two batters later. Kevin Taylor smoked a double to the gap in left center to bring in the runners to jump on 2-0.
The SeaWolves cut the lead in half in the third inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Danny Woodrow. Still, base-running mistakes continued to haunt Erie. With one out and A.J. Simcox at second, Maddox flared a ball to centerfield. Champ Stuart reeled in the catch, but Simcox had already advanced to third. The Binghamton centerfielder easily doubled up the SeaWolves, and sent the game into the fourth inning.
Erie made for an interesting bottom of the ninth inning. Josh Lester blasted a triple off of Binghamton reliever Daniel Zamora, prompting Sergio Alcantara to pinch run. Zamora held strong, fanning Chad Sedio and Kody Eaves. The Rumble Ponies called the bullpen to finish the game with Joshua Torres, who struck out Jake Rogers to finish the game.
Rumble Ponies starter Nabil Crismatt (6-2) earned the win after hurling 7.1 and allowed only one unearned run with five strikeouts.
Baez (0-4) fanned seven in seven innings and allowed two runs to score in the first inning.
Torres final strikeout gave him his first save.
