SeaWolves Win 4th Straight; Beat Akron 9-2

The SeaWolves equaled their longest winning streak of the season as they took down the Akron RubberDucks, 9-2, on Wednesday night at Canal Park.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the third inning against Akron starter D.J. Brown. Kody Eaves led off with a double and Wynton Bernard walked with one out, putting a pair on for Corey Jones. Jones doubled home the runners, giving Erie a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Dean Green clobbered a two-run home run into the bullpens in right center for a 4-0 Erie advantage. Green has homered in consecutive games and has a minor league-high 67 RBI.

The ‘Wolves extended the lead in the fourth. Dominic Ficociello led off with a walk and stole second. With one out, Eaves crushed a two-run home run, his fourth, over the wall in right center making it 6-0 in favor of Erie.

Akron got on the board in the last of the fourth against Erie starter Josh Turley. Clint Frazier led off with a solo home run to left, his seventh, making it 6-1. With one out, Jeremy Lucas doubled to left-center and scored on Joe Sever base hit making it 6-2.

The ‘Wolves put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth inning against reliever Casey Weathers. With one out, Ficociello and Harold Castro were each hit by a pitch. Eaves followed with an RBI single, plating Ficociello making it 7-2. With two outs, Bernard singled home a pair to make it 9-2.

Turley (1-5) earned the win allowing two runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work.

Santiago Garrido and Paul Voelker finished the day for Erie combining to toss three shutout frames.

Akron has now lost 11 consecutive games.

The SeaWolves have now won four straight for the first time since April 20-23 and will look for their first series sweep of the season on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Cory Riordan (4-5, 4.77 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Shawn Morimando (9-1, 2.17 ERA).
