Wolves Come Back to Beat Portland

The SeaWolves came from behind to take down the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday night, 5-2, taking two of three to win the series.

Portland struck first in the top of the first inning against SeaWolves starter Tyler Alexander. Mauricio Dubon homered with one out, giving the Dogs a 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves tied the game in the bottom of the third against Portland starter Kevin McAvoy when Wynton Bernard clobbered a two-out, solo home run to left, his fifth of the season.
The Sea Dogs regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Yoan Moncada led off with a solo home run to left center for a 2-1 advantage.

Portland held the lead until the last of the seventh when Erie would take control against reliever Williams Jerez. Austin Green singled with one out, putting the tying run on base for the top of the lineup. Bernard and Gustavo Nunez followed with back-to-back bloop singles, loading the bases for Anthony Gose. Gose fell behind in the count before connecting on an opposite-field, two-run single, giving Erie its first lead of the night at 3-2. Christin Stewart followed with a base hit to right, scoring Nunez making it 4-2.

The ‘Wolves added a final run off of reliever Jake Drehoff in the last of the eighth when Green blasted a solo home run to left. It was his fourth home run of the season and first since April 21.

Erie reliever Ruben Alaniz (2-3) earned the win tossing two scoreless innings in relief of Alexander. Alaniz struck out three while walking one.

Paul Voelker earned his seventh save recording the final four outs of the game.

Alexander took the no-decision allowing two runs on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

Jerez (1-6) took the loss for the Sea Dogs allowing three runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 0.2 innings.

The SeaWolves open a three-game weekend series against the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Josh Turley (5-7, 3.90 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Alex Balog (4-0, 4.30 ERA)

Friday, the first 1,000 fans will receive a SeaWolves beach towel courtesy of Tall Ships Erie. Fans can enjoy $2 specials on draft beer and fountain Pepsi products exclusively in the Bud Light Beer Garden until the game starts.
