Wolves Lose Two in Richmond (7-29-17)

RICHMOND, Va.— The Flying Squirrels held Erie to just one hit in the 3-0 loss to Richmond in game one of the doubleheader at The Diamond.

The Flying Squirrels tacked on two runs in the fifth inning to take the lead in game one. After Myles Schroder doubled, K.C. Hobson brought him in on a single off of A.J. Ladwig. Richmond added another run on an RBI single from Brandon Bednar to make it 2-0 Squirrels in the bottom of the fourth.

Hunter Cole belted a homer in the sixth inning off of Ladwig to extend the lead to 3-0.

Dawel Lugo broke up Cory Taylor’s no-hitter with a triple in the seventh, but the SeaWolves fell after seven 3-0 in game one of the doubleheader.

Ladwig (7-3) pitched the entire game but picked the loss, while Taylor (4-8) earned the win in a one hit performance.

RICHMOND, Va— Despite holding the Squirrels to three hits, Erie dropped game two of the doubleheader 2-0.

Richmond scored both of their runs in the bottom of third on starter Victor Alcantara. Slade Heathcott belted an RBI double followed by an RBI groundout from C.J. Hinojosa to make it 2-0 Flying Squirrels in the third inning.

Erie had their best chance to score in the seventh with the bases loaded and two outs, but Tyler Cyr held strong to earn his 13th save of the year.

Alcantara (1-2) suffered the loss while Matt Lujan (2-3) picked up a win in his first start since May.

The SeaWolves return to The Diamond Sunday to conclude the series with LHP Matt Crouse (6-3, 4.29 ERA) on the mound. Richmond will send RHP Dan Slania (2-1, 3.25 ERA). First pitch is set to start at 12:05 PM.
