Wolves Road Woes Continue in Binghamton

ERIE (56-58) 0-9-1
BINGHAMTON (65-46) 3-5-0

Despite a solid night from the pitching staff, the end result was another disappointing road loss for the SeaWolves who were shut out by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 3-0, on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium.

The Rumble Ponies took the lead in the last of the first inning against Erie starter Tyler Alexander. With two outs, Juan Lagares singled to center. Matt Oberste followed with a double off the wall in right, scoring Lagares from first for a 1-0 lead.

Binghamton extended its lead to 3-0 in the second on a pair of home runs. With one out, David Thompson went yard to right for his 11th of the season and with two outs, Champ Stuart homered to left for his fifth.

Alexander would settle down after the second and go on to fire four scoreless innings to complete his outing.

The Erie offense outhit the Rumble Ponies 9-5 in the game but could not muster a run. Their best scoring opportunity came in the seventh. With one out, Grayson Greiner singled and Wade Hinkle double to put a pair in scoring position. Ponies starter Corey Oswalt struck out Logan Watkins and reliever Ben Griset induced a groundout from Harold Castro to end the threat.

Oswalt (9-4) earned the win for Binghamton. He scattered eight hits over 6.2 innings of work with no walks while striking out five.

Alexander (6-7) was the tough luck loser for the SeaWolves. He allowed three runs on five hits with two walks while tying a career-high with nine strikeouts. Alexander has struck out 17 over his past two starts but is just 1-1 over that span.

Victor Alcantara followed Alexander and worked two perfect innings with four strikeouts.

The SeaWolves offense went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, stranding eight on base in the game.
