The SeaWolves bounced back from Tuesday night’s loss as they beat the Altoona Curve, 7-1, on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.
Altoona jumped ahead against Erie starter Tommy Collier in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Austin Meadows connected on a solo home run to right, his third, for a 1-0 Curve lead.
The SeaWolves tied the game in the last of the second against Curve starter Brandon Waddell. Connor Harrell led off with a single and moved to third on a Corey Jones double. With one out, Dominic Ficociello singled home Harrell, tying the game at 1-1.
The SeaWolves would take the lead against Waddell in the fifth. Jeff McVaney and Jason Krizan each singled to start the inning. Dean Green then walked, loading the bases for Harrell. Harrell singled home McVaney for a 2-1 Erie advantage. Jones then hit into a 3-2-3 double play and it left Green on third and Harrell on second. Waddell threw a wild pitch, plating Green and on a throwing error by the catcher Reese McGuire, Harrell scored making it 4-1.
The SeaWolves would add a run in the seventh against reliever Edgar Santana. Green singled and was thrown out trying to get to third on a Harrell single off the wall. Jones singled putting runners on the corners. With two outs and Ficociello hitting, Jones took off to second and Harrell scored from third before Jones was tagged out, giving Erie a 5-1 advantage.
Erie put the game out of reach in the eighth. Ficociello led off with a walk off of reliever Josh Smith. With one out, Wynton Bernard smashed a two-run home run to left, his first, for a 7-1 lead.
Collier (5-4) earned the win allowing a run on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts in six innings of work. It was the ninth straight start for Collier going six or more innings. He has also thrown back-to-back starts without issuing a walk.
Joe Jimenez tossed a scoreless ninth inning with three strikeouts, closing the game in the ninth in a non-save situation.
The SeaWolves go for the series win on Thursday night against the Curve at 7:05 p.m. LHP Anthony Fernandez (0-2, 3,27 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Tyler Eppler (3-4, 4.20 ERA).
