The SeaWolves walked off in 13 innings over the Akron RubberDucks, 3-2, on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.
Erie jumped ahead against Akron starter Julian Merryweather in the third. With two outs, Harold Castro singled and moved into scoring position on a Gustavo Nunez base hit. Anthony Gose singled to left, scoring Castro for a 1-0 lead.
Akron tied the game in the top of the fifth against Erie starter Artie Lewicki when Mike Papi crushed a solo home run to right.
Lewicki took a no-decision allowing a run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in seven strong innings.
The Ducks took the lead in the eighth against Erie reliever Ruben Alaniz. Joe Sever led off with a base hit and moved into scoring position on a Todd Hankins sacrifice bunt. Eric Stamets singled home Sever with two outs for a 2-1 Akron lead.
The SeaWolves rallied in the ninth against reliever Cole Sulser. With one out, Grayson Greiner doubled and was replaced by a pinch runner in Connor Harrell. Mike Gerber followed with a walk to put the winning run on base. With two outs, Dominic Ficociello laced a single to left, scoring Harrell, tying the game at 2-2. On the play, a perfect relay cut down Gerber trying to score from first, sending the game into extra innings.
Erie relievers Joe Mantiply and Adam Ravenelle tossed each tossed two scoreless frames in extra innings, sending the game into the bottom of the 13th, tied 2-2.
In the bottom of the 13th, Castro led off with a single off of reliever Casey Weathers, putting the winning run on base. Castro moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Weathers intentionally walked Corey Jones setting up a righty-righty matchup against Austin Green. Green worked a full count and then singled to right, scoring Castro who slid around a tag by the catcher Eric Haase, winning the game.
Ravenelle (1-1) earned the win.
The SeaWolves wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Thursday night against the Ducks at 7:05 p.m. RHP Tommy Collier (9-7, 3.97 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP D.J. Brown (8-7, 4.54 ERA)
