20th Annual D-Day Recreation in Conneaut, Ohio

Every year since 1999 Conneaut, Ohio comes alive with visitors and reenactors from around the world to recreate one of the most iconic battles of WWII. Edward Jividen from Painesville, Ohio has been participating in this event since 2005. His father-in-law fought in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He brought his sons to Saturday’s event to give them a taste of what this day, 75 years ago, meant to this country.
“There’s a mixture of guys that are my age, my generation. But we have a lot of guys that were Afghanistan and Iraq vets and Vietnam veterans. We have a lot of guys in this reenacting group who actually have purple hearts” Jividen said.
More than four-and-a-half thousand allied troops are estimated to have died on the beach that fateful day. Not letting their sacrifice be forgotten is why so many come together to make this re-creation happen every year.
