Two students at Rice Avenue Middle School in Girard nominated our first Golden Apple Award Winning School Teacher of the year. Tonight, Lou Baxter reveals a secret talent this week’s winner uses in the classroom…
Frank Beachly teaches science and social studies to middle school students in Girard. The Slippery Rock grad. has been teaching here since 1997, using humor as a tool to communicate with young people. Beachly saying, “humor works well to get a message across.”
Another secret ingredient to his teaching success, some really cool dance moves! The students who nominated Mr. Beachly say he is always in good spirits and has a good heart… and thanks to him, we do too. “I don’t want to cry… that’s very nice,” he says. “The kids are just great. I just really enjoy sometimes working with them more than I do adults.”
Dylan Byers, Student Nominator, tells us, “he would teach us skills that we’ll need in life eventually. He makes learning fun and ya kinda want to go to school.”
Another Student Nominator, Courtney Strain, says, “Mr. Beachly, he just makes everything so fun. He makes learning fun. He’ll do anything to make anyone laugh. He’s like a second father to me. He treats us like we are his own children. He’s just, like, the perfect school father.”
The students aren’t the only ones who have nice words for this exemplary teacher. Mary Jo Melvin, PhD, Edinboro University, says, “I think he exemplifies everything we want the teacher to be to young people.”
To kick off our 27th year of honoring school teachers, we congratulate Mr. Frank Beachly, this week’s JET 24, Edinboro University, Golden Apple Award Winner.
